THE DAYS ONE HATES RUNNING

Life is full of Bio Rhythms especially at times as a senior runner.

The combo of a hard work week and lot's of family responsibility combined with some problems in both work and personal worlds, makes it tough sometime to concentrate on your runs. The truth is of course that it should help to relax you and help you to deal with problems. But there are some days where the benefits feel more repressive then the benefits. You will curse yourself during the run. When the run is over your thankful and feel better.

You have to be tough and understand the big picture in a not perfect world. The big picture is you have to stick with it and understand the benefits of staying in great shape will benefit you in everyday in short and long term physical and mental health.

So when you first wake up and dread the thought of your early morning run or get home from work stressed and tired and the thought of the run makes you hate running. Or the first ten minutes of your run creates a venue where you say to yourself that reading or watching TV is a heck of a lot more fun then this physical torture, just remember that you benefit in every way by sticking with your discipline of trotting along and getting rid of the tension and reaping the health benefits of your daily running. What are your experiences?

BEGINNER

Okay maybe you ran many many years ago. Maybe you loved basketball or soccer or weight training. So running after years many years away from the sport puts you at the beginners level at age 50 or older. So how does one go about it? Well first of all do the right thing and get a clean bill of health from your doctor. After getting the okay start very very slowly. Listen to your body. Try to just enjoy yourself and at the start and it might be a good idea to start at a school track to measure your progress. For me when I was in my early fifties I made the decision to really stick with it after years of off and on again running mixed with walking and hiking. I knew if I stuck with it that it would save my sanity, so for dramatic purpose it would save my life.

So to keep it simple, nothing is better than after years of not running or being truly new to the sport. Out in the open space huffing and puffing and feeling alive from the positive benefits of running.

This beginner section is full of clichés so for another IT'S NEVER TOO LATE and IT IS A SPIRITUAL RE-AWAKING amongst a few reasons to give it a shot.

For the recent Senior Runner new comers please relate your experiences and your trials and tribulations.

WHAT TIME TO RUN

by: Bruce Silverman

I love morning runs because of the obvious. If a weekday, i am wide a wake after a early morning run.

A couple cups of coffee and the run and i am alive and chipper and relaxed, you know the story. On weekends for me it might negate my previous nights over indulgences in celebration of down time.

WHERE TO RUN

by: Bruce Silverman

I do not like to run on tracks unless traffic is a problem like where i live in Baguio in the Philippine Islands.

My street actual measures 3 blocks so back and forth is a half mile and serves me well for 3am runs which i do frequently based upon my profession of working late hours.
