WHERE TO RUN

I do not like to run on tracks unless traffic is a problem like where i live in Baguio in the Philippine Islands. My street actual measures 3 blocks so back and forth is a half mile and serves me well for 3am runs which i do frequently based upon my profession of working late hours.

But nothings better then beautiful nature runs surrounded by beautiful tree and ocean and the thing that most runners run for in the first place, the great outdoors.

Most of us enjoy the alone time to grunt and excrete bodily gases and spit and things we certain can't nor would do at home.

So the track means running in circles, boring. But our track here has a rubber surface and has some wonder benefits. When raining heavily, gosh i love running in rain, you can run bare foot on a rubber track. Also doing speed work which i rarely do is easier to measure. So i run on a track maybe a half dozen times a year.

The road is my favorite place.Firm surface and many places to go and see. Of course the negative is cars and pollution. But nothing better then running into town or the middle of the country. Sometimes i stop halfway at a rural Starbucks and have a nice black coffee then run home.Nothing better running right from your door step and back home again.

Trail and cross country runs are great and better for the legs at times but can be much more treacherous. I love the trails but make no mistake one has to focus harder or can injure ones self. So one more part of the great outdoors.

Indoor running, some folks love. I dislike and will only run indoor if no choice like brutal cold. But the worse the weather the more i enjoy as it gives me a feeling of uniqueness. But as one gets older it might be a necessity during nasty weather to change your venue to indoors.

There are other creative places to run like on the beach to the platform of a cruise ship. So us runners have a lot of choices.

WHAT TIME TO RUN

by: Bruce Silverman

I love morning runs because of the obvious. If a weekday, i am wide a wake after a early morning run.

A couple cups of coffee and the run and i am alive and chipper and relaxed, you know the story. On weekends for me it might negate my previous nights over indulgences in celebration of down time.
